PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ritchie Blackmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JunJun Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blackmore kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 16th century greensleeves. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ritchie Blackmore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, JunJun Jones!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Blackmore defends well and Jones ends up having to push Blackmore into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Blackmore fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.

Blackmore forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
Blackmore lands a shoulder strike.
Jones tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Blackmore avoids it.
Jones wants a takedown but no success here.
Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Blackmore walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ritchie Blackmore has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JunJun Jones.
Jones takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jones looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Blackmore looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Jones moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jones fails with the takedown
and Blackmore counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Blackmore keeps Jones at a distance using the push kick.
Jones looks winded!

Blackmore is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jones's half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Blackmore is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Blackmore lands a nice short elbow.


Jones is rocked!
Jones avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Blackmore.

Blackmore wants to pass to mount but Jones is defending the position.
Blackmore seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Blackmore not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Jones is defending against the submission attempts here by Blackmore.
Blackmore is nestled in close to Jones, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Blackmore sits in half guard.
Blackmore lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Blackmore not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Blackmore missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Blackmore connects with a nice short shot to Jones's temple.
Blackmore wants to pass the guard but Jones is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blackmore throws a strike but Jones avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Blackmore throws a big elbow that misses.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Blackmore has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Blackmore stays in close to Jones's body and controls the position.
Blackmore throws an elbow that misses. Jones uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Blackmore's guard. Nice move by Jones!


Blackmore looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Jones is defending well. Blackmore quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Jones has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Blackmore celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ritchie Blackmore!
Ritchie Blackmore decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
