PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bear Prime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincent Obi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bear Prime!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vincent Obi!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab lands there for Obi.
Obi clobbers Prime with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Prime swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Obi counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Prime seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Obi scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Prime has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Obi finds it's way round the side to connect with Prime's head.
Obi jabs Prime to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Obi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Prime takes one to the side of the head.
Obi is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Prime takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Obi throws a jab but it's blocked by Prime.
Obi connects with a body shot that sends Prime's belly button to the back.
Nice shot lands for Obi.
Prime has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Obi finds it's way round the side to connect with Prime's head.
Prime takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Vincent Obi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Prime drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Obi lands a glancing blow to the side of Prime's head.
Prime avoids the body shot from Obi.
Obi lands a nice shot to the body.
Obi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Prime takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The fighters circle momentarily. Obi darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

It looked like Prime wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Prime appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Obi has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Obi scores with a sloppy right hand. Prime should have avoided that one.

Prime tries to move into range but Obi moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

A little feinted left hand from Prime on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Prime throws out a loose jab but Obi uses good head movement to avoid it.
Obi scores with a decent looking hook.

Prime tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Prime takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Obi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Prime manages to avoid it.
Prime throws an overhand right that lands on Obi's shoulder, as Obi tries to avoid the shot.
Prime scores with a hook to the body. Obi takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Prime loads up on a big right hand but Obi slips the punch.
A nice side step and Obi releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Prime misses with the combination.

Obi drives through and clinches with Prime against the cage.

Obi keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Prime's efforts to push away.
We've been informed that Obi has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Obi working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Obi misses with the head strike.
Prime can't break the clinch.
A short uppercut from Obi.
Obi lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Prime backwards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Prime has had enough of the clinch but Obi keeps him there for the moment.
Obi is pushing Prime up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Prime takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Vincent Obi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Prime looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Obi throws a lazy right hand but Prime sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Prime gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Prime takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Obi moves into range and connects with a jab.

Prime walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Prime is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Obi's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Vincent Obi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Obi's corner calls for a 1-2. Obi obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Prime looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Prime tries to bum rush Obi with a series of wild strikes but Obi uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Vincent Obi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Obi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
