The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martinez blocks a head kick by Shanes.
Martinez wants to clinch up but Shanes keeps it at a distance.
Shanes moves in looking to clinch but Martinez pushes him off.
Martinez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Shanes defends well and Martinez ends up having to push Shanes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Martinez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shanes manages to avoid it.

Shanes rushes Martinez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shanes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Shanes stopping the sweep attempt from Martinez.
Shanes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shanes is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Shanes tries to move into full mount but can't pass Martinez's legs.
Martinez is trying to control Shanes's posture but Shanes avoids it.

Shanes looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Shanes trying to control the position but Martinez is working away.

Shanes is working to tighten his grip on Martinez's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Martinez has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Shanes is really squeezing tight and eventually Martinez passes out! Shanes breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
