PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Stringer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stringer has chosen Cherokee - Europe as his entrance music. Peter Stringer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Stringer!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stringer looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Stringer wants to clinch.
Stringer pivots, looking for a leg kick but Johnson is out of range and Stringer settles back down.
No luck for Stringer with that takedown attempt.

Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Stringer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stringer regains half guard there - taking advantage of Johnson's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stringer is looking to improve his position.
Johnson tries to pass to full mount but Stringer defends it.
Stringer moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Stringer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stringer manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Stringer's guard.

Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Stringer had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Johnson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Stringer Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Johnson's back instead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Stringer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Johnson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Stringer.
Johnson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Johnson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Stringer is working away from the top position though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stringer tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance.

Johnson feints and as Stringer raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stringer looking to control but Johnson passes into half guard.
Johnson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stringer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Stringer looks gassed!

Johnson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Johnson is working for a guillotine from mount but Stringer frees his head quite easily.
Stringer tries to lock up and control but Johnson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stringer is wriggling around trying to escape.

Johnson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Stringer has worked his arm free - good work by Stringer!

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Johnson dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Stringer.
Stringer tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Johnson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Johnson seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stringer trying to hold on to Johnson's head to control him but Johnson postures up.

Johnson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Stringer is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Stringer manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Stringer has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Johnson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Stringer has given up his back here.
Stringer trying to control the action but Johnson just sinks the hooks in.

Johnson has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Stringer is in real trouble here. Johnson gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Stringer is tapping out! Johnson wins by rear naked choke!
