PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hung Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Edilo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles Edilo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hung Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Charles Edilo!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edilo throws a sloppy head kick

and Santos counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Santos looking for a takedown.

Santos successfully pulls guard.
Edilo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Edilo wants to stand but Santos is controlling his posture from full guard.
Santos avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edilo trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom.

Santos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Edilo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Edilo distracts Santos with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Edilo trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom.
Santos pulls Edilo in to control the position.
Edilo wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Edilo gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Edilo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Santos uses from the top position.
Edilo looking to control.
Edilo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Santos haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Edilo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santos is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Edilo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Edilo has escaped and now he's on top!

Edilo throws an elbow that misses. Santos uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Edilo's guard. Nice move by Santos!

Edilo wants to stand up but Santos is controlling him.
Santos loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Santos works over Edilo with some ground and pound from guard.
Edilo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Santos is controlling him.

Santos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Edilo has momentary wrist control but Santos slips an elbow through the middle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Santos is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Santos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Edilo doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Santos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Santos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Santos makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Santos's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Santos is in close to Edilo's body, working some short punches and elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hung Santos dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Santos scores with a hook to the body. Edilo takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Santos drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Edilo is trying to control the position but Santos postures up.
Santos postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edilo is looking to sweep but instead, Santos has passed into half guard.
Edilo trying to control from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Santos throwing shots but Edilo is blocking nicely.
Santos takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Santos looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Santos is trying for a kimura here. Edilo looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Santos wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hung Santos!
