PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Paul Fish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Macotti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Macotti's choice of entrance music: Drown - Theory of a Deadman. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Paul Fish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Macotti!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macotti closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Fish is defending against the submission attempts here by Macotti.

Macotti is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fish defends it well.

Macotti is trying to work for a kimura but Fish is defending well.
Fish gets full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Macotti trying to control the position from guard on top but Fish is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Macotti drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fish manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Macotti has Fish in his guard.

Macotti keeping moving, preventing Fish from controlling successfully.
Fish throwing strikes from guard but Macotti blocks nicely.
Macotti is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Fish dives into side control.
Macotti is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fish is looking to take a break and control but Macotti is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fish remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Macotti wants to get back to his feet.
Fish tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Fish goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Macotti rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Fish's guard! Nice work there by Macotti!

Fish is looking to stand up but Macotti isn't so interested in that idea.
Fish is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Macotti wants to get back to full guard.
Fish wants to free his trapped foot but Macotti is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Fish is trying to control the action in half guard but Macotti is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Macotti tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Fish has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Fish looking to control and managing it successfully.
Fish's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Fish has control of Macotti's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Macotti regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Macotti seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fish does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Fish manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Fish has Macotti pulled in close to control his posture.
Fish wants to sweep here but Macotti controlling him for the moment.
Fish preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Fish is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Fish shoots for a takedown but Macotti saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fish bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Macotti is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Macotti is keen to just control but Fish is a slippery customer.
Fish wants to improve his position but Macotti is controlling well.

Marco Macotti showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Fish is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Macotti is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fish is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fish has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Macotti moves into range and clinches up with Fish.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Fish turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Fish tries to move to mount but Macotti blocks the move with his legs.
