PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cyril Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Meaux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cyril Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, William Meaux!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Meaux is fending him off so far but Reed persists. Nope, Meaux circles away and we're back to standing.
Meaux doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Meaux jabs Reed to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Reed shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Meaux as he avoids it easily.
Meaux misses with a few strikes there.
Reed avoids the head kick by Meaux.
Reed seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Meaux closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Reed misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Meaux looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Reed with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Meaux sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Reed defending well though.
Meaux wants to stand up but Reed is controlling the position.
Meaux wants to take a breather but Reed is having none of it.
Reed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Meaux decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Meaux fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Reed to the ground. Meaux is now in Reed's guard.
Meaux stands and throws Reed's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Reed is letting Meaux control him for a moment.

Meaux goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Reed rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Meaux's guard! Nice work there by Reed!

Reed gets to his feet. Meaux looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Reed changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Meaux tries to avoid it but Reed manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Meaux to the ground. Meaux escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cyril Reed. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Meaux avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Meaux changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reed looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Reed tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Meaux wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Reed's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Meaux wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reed keeps working.

Meaux decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Meaux shoots in and bounces Reed off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Reed working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Meaux doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Meaux manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Reed is breathing heavily.
Meaux would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reed is trying to keep Meaux in close.
Meaux stays in close to Reed's body and controls the position.
Meaux wants to control from the top but Reed keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Meaux moves into the clinch.
Meaux throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Reed is working for takedown but Meaux is calmly controlling the position for now.
Reed tries for a takedown but Meaux manages to get underhooks.
Meaux presses Reed against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Meaux is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Meaux has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reed creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Meaux jumps guard and drags Reed to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Meaux wants to get back to his feet but Reed is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Reed decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Meaux closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Reed's guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Meaux. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Reed is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Meaux stays in close to Reed's body and controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Reed avoids the head kick by Meaux.

Meaux throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reed tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Meaux is in Reed's guard.
Meaux wanted to stand there but Reed had control of the position.

Reed is controlling Meaux's posture.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Reed really is a fat lump.

William Meaux showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Reed looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Meaux throws a sloppy head kick and Reed moves out of range easily.

Meaux looks to land a strike but Reed avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Reed controls Meaux momentarily but Meaux frees himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Meaux wants to stand but Reed has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Meaux throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Meaux throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Meaux blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Meaux has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Reed tries to break free but Meaux pushes him back against the cage.
Meaux managing to block the knees to the body from Reed.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Meaux takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Meaux is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Meaux ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Meaux no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Meaux forces his way into half guard.

Meaux is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reed defends it well.

William Meaux comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Meaux has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
