Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jess Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jess Banks has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jess Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Butler!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banks scores with a one two! Butler had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Banks fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Butler takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Banks keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Butler throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Banks counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Butler swings for the body but Banks moves out of range.
Banks tries to clinch but Butler is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Banks is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Butler's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Butler's back!

Banks is not going to allow Butler to sit and survive in this position.
I really don't envy Butler right now.
Butler looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Banks is looking for a rear naked choke here but Butler reverses the position brilliantly into Banks's guard!

Butler wants to stand and escape but instead Banks has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Banks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Banks is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Butler doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Banks.

Banks drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Butler manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Banks has Butler in his guard.

A close round but James Butler will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Banks counters with a three punch combo that has Butler backing up. Butler nods at Banks to acknowledge the strikes.

and Banks connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Butler is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Butler throws a predictable looking body shot
and Banks counters with a series of strikes. Butler will be more careful next time no doubt.

Butler tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Butler shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Banks is trying to defend but Butler finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Butler's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Banks connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Butler scrambles back to his feet.

Butler's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
