PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Weber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shaun Weber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jay Evans!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Weber defends it nicely.
Evans is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Weber shoots and misses

and Evans counters by clinching up.
Weber could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Weber looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Weber pulls guard successfully.
Weber wants to stand up but Evans is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Evans pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Weber is keeping the position for now.
Evans is looking to work some ground and pound but Weber has wrist control.

Evans shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Weber is trying to defend but Evans finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Evans seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Weber does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Evans shoots in for a double leg but Weber sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jay Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Weber has closed the distance and engaged Evans in a clinch.
Weber is looking to break free of the clinch but Evans has double underhooks.
Evans is trying to push Weber away but Weber has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Weber has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Evans blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Evans fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Weber avoids it really well and circles away.
Weber shoots in for a double leg but Evans sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Weber keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Evans fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Weber, pushing him back against the cage.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Evans moves into the clinch.
Weber wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Evans has him pressed against the cage.
Weber is trying to break the clinch but Evans is controlling him.
Weber can't find room to land a body shot as Evans controls the action.
Evans tries to pull guard but Weber holds him up against the cage and eventually Evans drops back down to his feet.
Weber avoiding damage as Evans throws knees to the body.
Evans is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Weber gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Weber is trying to break the clinch but Evans has him pressed against the cage.
Weber lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Weber ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Weber no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weber wants to stand up but Evans is controlling him.
Evans is standing up over Weber. Weber looks to escape but Evans dives into side control.

Weber is pushing Evans's head away, looking to escape. Evans manages to hold on to the position though.
Weber might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Evans is breathing heavily.
Evans wants to stand but Weber is controlling his arm.
Weber tries to escape but Evans is in control.
Weber trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Evans lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Weber shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Evans is trying to defend but Weber finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Evans has his foot on Weber's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Weber works his way back into a safe position though.

Weber shoots in looking for a takedown. Evans tries to sprawl out of it but Weber keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Evans manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Evans looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Weber half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Weber looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Weber is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Evans is just riding it out for now. Weber eventually gives up the hold.

Weber shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Evans as he avoids it easily.

Evans instigates a clinch.

Evans breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Weber counters with a three punch combo that has Evans backing up. Evans nods at Weber to acknowledge the strikes.

Evans darts in and clinches Weber up against the cage.
Evans tries for a takedown but Weber manages to get underhooks.
Weber is trying to pull guard but Evans turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Evans is trying to maintain a safe position but Weber gets an underhook and turns Evans into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A head punch on the inside from Evans fails to land.
Weber tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Evans's elbow.

Weber shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Evans sprawls well. Evans wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Weber gets slowly back to his feet.

I would just about give that final round to Jay Evans.
I think Evans has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
