PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Otto Grimm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Espiridion Araya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Otto Grimm has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Otto Grimm seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Araya is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Araya uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Grimm has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Grimm leaves Araya with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The fighters circling - Araya throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Araya bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Grimm's head.
No joy there for Araya, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Grimm fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Araya manages to avoid it.
Grimm scores with a crisp jab that stopped Araya in his tracks.

Grimm rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Araya moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Araya swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Araya stuffs the takedown.
Grimm takes a jab right on the kisser.

Grimm misses with a leg kick.
Grimm tries to score a power double leg takedown but Araya sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Grimm somewhat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Grimm.
Araya connects with a solid leg kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Grimm misses with a wild body shot.
Araya clobbers Grimm with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Espiridion Araya will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Araya decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Araya might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Grimm haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Grimm uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Araya.
Grimm lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Araya backs up against the cage.
Araya darts in looking for a takedown but Grimm gets double underhooks and turns Araya into the cage.
Otto Grimm is winning the standup battle so far.
Araya staying out of range there.
Araya has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Grimm tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Araya pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Grimm connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Araya momentarily.
Grimm pounces like a tiger and cracks Araya with a vicious hook! Araya is down but not out! Grimm follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

After winning the bout, Otto Grimm thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
