PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Vernon Reeves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brayann Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brayann Fernandez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fernandez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Reeves tries to get to full guard but Fernandez has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reeves keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Reeves wants to improve his position but Fernandez is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fernandez wants to free his trapped foot but Reeves is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Fernandez stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Fernandez pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Fernandez rushes Reeves and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Fernandez wants a takedown but no success here.
Fernandez jumps guard but Reeves turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Reeves is pressed up against the cage. Fernandez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Reeves down to the mat. Reeves avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Vernon Reeves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brayann Fernandez.

Reeves shoots in and bounces Fernandez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Fernandez controls Reeves momentarily but Reeves frees himself.

Reeves drops back, looking for a kneebar! Fernandez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Fernandez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Fernandez!

Fernandez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reeves keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Reeves's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Reeves manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Reeves closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Fernandez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Reeves is trying to stand up here but Fernandez is controlling him well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Brayann Fernandez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Fernandez wants to land a leg kick but Reeves is out of range.
Reeves takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Fernandez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fernandez goes for a double leg but Reeves avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Reeves continues to drive forward.

Fernandez is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Reeves has his hands clasped together but Fernandez extends and breaks Reeves's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Fernandez.
