The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joan dives in for a single leg takedown but Peterson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Peterson pushes Joan away with a front kick.
Peterson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Peterson drives through with a takedown into Joan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Peterson passes Joan's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Joan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peterson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Peterson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Joan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Peterson passes the guard and advances to mount!

A big strike lands for Peterson! That's really hurt Joan and he's turned his back - Peterson keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Peterson jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

After the fight, Patrick Peterson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
