Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ruben Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hunter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carney's guard.
Carney throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hunter trying to control but Carney is working from the bottom.
Hunter throws a big elbow that misses.
Hunter controls from within his opponent's guard.
Carney keeping moving, preventing Hunter from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter tries to stand but Carney is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carney not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Carney tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Carney cracks Hunter with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Hunter tries to land a body kick
and Carney counters with a nice uppercut.

Hunter scores with a sloppy right hand. Carney should have avoided that one.
Hunter wants to clinch

and Carney counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hunter won't be happy with that.
Carney wants to control but Hunter is keeping him busy.

Carney stands up.

Hunter wants to stand but Carney is controlling his posture from full guard.

Carney controls Hunter momentarily but Hunter frees himself.
Carney knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunter on the ground.

Carney escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hunter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carney throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Hunter stands up and waves to Carney to follow him.

Hunter shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Hunter passes into side control, despite Carney's attempt to control the position.
Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Carney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hunter lands a nice forearm strike.
Hunter wants to stand but Carney is controlling his arm.
Carney struggling a bit here.
Hunter wants to control but Carney is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hunter working away.
Hunter lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Carney down.
You can see the frustration on Carney's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hunter thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Carney is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carney wants to control but Hunter postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hunter throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Carney tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hunter is in Carney's guard.
Hunter postures up.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Carney keeps moving.
Hunter content to stall in guard here.
Hunter cracks Carney with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Carney will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hunter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Carney controls Hunter momentarily but Hunter frees himself.

Carney has his foot on Hunter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hunter works his way back into a safe position though.

Hunter connects with a couple of short punches.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Carney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carney controls Hunter momentarily but Hunter frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carney closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hunter circles away.
Hunter wants to counter the offense by Carney and move into the clinch position.

Hunter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hunter lands in his opponent's guard.
Hunter is breathing heavily.
Carney will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Carney utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Carney had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hunter defends it easily.
Hunter cracks Carney with a solid left hand.
Hunter throwing strikes but missing.
Hunter controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Carney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hunter is looking to stand up but Carney won't let him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hunter looks to clinch
letting Carney counter with a right hand.
Hunter throws a left and a right that both miss
and Carney counters with a good, hard body kick but Hunter shrugs it off.
Carney tries to clinch up.
Hunter closes the distance looking to clinch
and Carney counters with a flying knee. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Hunter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dave Hunter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hunter wants to clinch but Carney slips to the side
and Carney cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hunter misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Carney scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Hunter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carney napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hunter wants to stand but Carney is controlling his arm.
Carney is trying to control Hunter's posture but Hunter avoids it.

Carney is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Carney tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Carney is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hunter is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carney has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hunter tries to score with some ground and pound. Carney controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Carney wants to control but Hunter postures up.
Dave Hunter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Carney trying his best to control but Hunter has mounted him.
Hunter can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carney is looking to escape.
Carney tries to hold on but Hunter pushes him away.
Hunter is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Carney flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunter scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Hunter wants to control the pace but Carney is squirming around nicely.
Hunter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Carney haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Carney sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Hunter passes into side control, despite Carney's attempt to control the position.
Carney tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Carney can't do much from the bottom here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carney takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Ruben Carney has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dave Hunter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Carney is letting Hunter control him for a moment.
