The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hines sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Aki stalling.
Hines is looking to control Aki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hines avoid being mounted?
Aki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hines does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aki tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Hines.
Aki is keen to just control but Hines is a slippery customer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Aki postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hines is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Aki, into his guard.

Aki has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Aki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Aki has his foot on Hines's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hines works his way back into a safe position though.

Aki controls Hines momentarily but Hines frees himself.
Aki is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hines could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hines defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Aki.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Aki is defended easily by Hines.
Granville Hines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Purple Aki.

Hines will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
It seemed like Aki was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Hines has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Aki uses from the top position.

Hines seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Purple Aki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Aki rushes Hines and presses him up against the cage.
Aki is pressed up against the cage. Hines has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Aki down to the mat. Aki avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Aki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hines is working away from the top position though.

Aki is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hines's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hines's back!

Aki jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Hines is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Hines and Aki has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Purple Aki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Aki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hines tries to avoid it but Aki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hines to the ground. Hines escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hines manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Aki on his heels. He'll look to pass Aki's guard now, I'm sure.
