PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tamil Figg Hoblyn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tamil Figg Hoblyn was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, George Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tamil Figg Hoblyn!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yuuki Gou and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush tries to clinch but Figg Hoblyn is having none of it.

Figg Hoblyn gets caught flat footed, as Rush shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Figg Hoblyn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Figg Hoblyn is on top in guard.

Rush wants to stand up but Figg Hoblyn is controlling him.
Rush will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rush wants to control the position but Figg Hoblyn says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Figg Hoblyn is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Figg Hoblyn lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Figg Hoblyn takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rush has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Figg Hoblyn is working away from the top position though.

Rush is positioning himself well to prevent Figg Hoblyn advancing to mount.
Rush manages to get to full guard.
Figg Hoblyn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rush tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rush is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Rush is breathing heavily.
Rush wants to control but Figg Hoblyn passes easily into half guard.

Well, if Figg Hoblyn is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Figg Hoblyn is looking to take a break and control but Rush is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rush wants to control but Figg Hoblyn is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rush closes the distance and clinches up with Figg Hoblyn, looking for a takedown. Rush pushes Figg Hoblyn against the cage but Figg Hoblyn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A punch combination from Rush misses.
Both fighters circling a little - Figg Hoblyn finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Figg Hoblyn closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Figg Hoblyn jumps guard and drags Rush to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Figg Hoblyn is trying to keep Rush in close.
Rush wants to control from the top but Figg Hoblyn keeps moving.
Figg Hoblyn manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

I looks like Figg Hoblyn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rush's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Figg Hoblyn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rush wants to improve his position but Figg Hoblyn is controlling well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Figg Hoblyn seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rush is looking to control Figg Hoblyn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rush avoid being mounted?

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Figg Hoblyn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Rush is squirming around, avoiding Figg Hoblyn's attempts to control the action.
Figg Hoblyn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tamil Figg Hoblyn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Figg Hoblyn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rush as he jumps to the side.

and Figg Hoblyn counters with a stiff right hand.

Figg Hoblyn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Figg Hoblyn controls Rush momentarily but Rush frees himself.

Rush slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Rush thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Figg Hoblyn tries to buck Rush off but Rush is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Figg Hoblyn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rush!
Rush is trying desperately to improve position.
Rush takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Tamil Figg Hoblyn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Figg Hoblyn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
