Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aleksei Marshal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ethan Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Volbeat-Warrior's call. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aleksei Marshal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ethan Paul!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marshal was well out of range. Poor timing from Paul.
Marshal dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Paul. That did some damage!
Marshal fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Paul.
Paul moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A swing and a miss from Marshal.
Despite the aggression on Paul's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A left and a right from Paul both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Aleksei Marshal has been cut.
Marshal throws a head kick that misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Marshal.
A swing and a miss from Marshal.
Paul tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Marshal throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Paul swings for the body but Marshal moves out of range.
Marshal throws a counter high kick but Paul was just alert enough to avoid it.
Marshal scores with a push kick.
Marshal lands with an overhand left.
Good leg kick by Paul there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Paul throws a lazy right hand but Marshal sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Paul misses the shot to the body.
Marshal connects with a looping right hand.


It looks like Ethan Paul has been cut.

Paul drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Paul throwing strikes from guard but Marshal blocks nicely.

Marshal is working an open guard so Paul takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Marshal moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Aleksei Marshal is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Marshal tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Paul was well out of range. Poor timing from Marshal.

Paul gets the takedown into side control.
Marshal sneaks back into half guard.
Marshal makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Marshal.
Paul wants to control from the top but Marshal keeps moving.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Marshal holds on and takes a little breather.

Marshal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Paul's guard.

Marshal trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Paul manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Paul is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Paul drops back, looking for a kneebar! Marshal looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Marshal looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Marshal!


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paul is letting Marshal control him for a moment.
You can see the frustration on Paul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Marshal works to advance to full mount. Paul defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Paul is looking to get to half guard.
Paul tries to hold on but Marshal postures up.
Marshal content just to control the position here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Paul is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Marshal controlling the pace for now.
Marshal throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Paul is trying to escape the mount.
Paul felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Marshal avoids the attempt from Paul to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Aleksei Marshal will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Marshal throws a body punch but Paul moves out of range.
Paul stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Marshal.
Paul sizes up Marshal with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Paul scores with a jab to the body.
Paul lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Marshal at a distance.
Paul walks into a jab.
Marshal has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Paul uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Marshal.
Marshal takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Marshal connects with an inside leg kick.
Paul scores with a hook.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ethan Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paul walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Paul is looking to land body kicks.
Paul throws a head kick that misses.
Paul closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Marshal loads up on a big right hand but Paul slips the punch.

Aleksei Marshal is winning the standup battle so far.
Marshal uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Paul fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Marshal checks it well.
Paul throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A big left from Paul misses.
Paul throws a head kick but Marshal moves out of range.
Paul misses the shot to the body.
A nice leg kick lands there from Marshal.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Marshal. Paul shrugs it off though.
Paul is breathing heavily.
Paul tries to clinch but Marshal is having none of it.
Marshal connects with a crisp jab.
Paul takes one on the button.
Paul is looking to clinch but Marshal is avoiding it.
Marshal keeps Paul at a distance using the push kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Marshal throws a half hearted mid kick.
Paul throws out a counter right but Marshal avoids it with no problem.
Paul throws a lazy uppercut
and Marshal makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Ethan Paul is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Marshal lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

That kick from Marshal tenderised Paul's leg. Paul is trying to keep his angry face on.
Paul stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Marshal.
Marshal throws a nice inside leg kick.
A solid body kick from Marshal.
It looks like Marshal has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Marshal uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Paul has time to react.
Paul fails in his attempt to clinch.
Paul moves out of range of the body kick.
Marshal lands with an overhand left.
A jab from Paul finds it's way through Marshal's defenses.
Marshal scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Paul takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Paul throws a body kick that misses.
Paul throws out a leg kick but Marshal moves out of range and Paul only half commits.
Paul fails with an attempt to clinch.

Marshal lands a big head kick that sends Paul tumbling to the mat! Marshal takes a step backwards and waves Paul back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Paul is rocked!


That has opened up Ethan Paul's cut even more.
Marshal lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Paul head around and knocks him out cold! Marshal hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Aleksei Marshal!
