PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mordecai Wollsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Lamb of God - To The End. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dylan Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mordecai Wollsey!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz slips under a jab.
Wollsey throws a lazy right hand but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Dylan Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wollsey throws a nice inside leg kick.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wollsey! But no joy.
Diaz loads up on a big right hand but Wollsey slips the punch.
Diaz throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Diaz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wollsey.
Wollsey tries to move into range but Diaz moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Diaz connects with a crisp jab.

Wollsey stuffs the takedown attempt from Diaz. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.
Diaz blocks a leg kick.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wollsey as he jumps to the side.
It seemed like Wollsey was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Diaz darts in and clinches Wollsey up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wollsey is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Horrible takedown attempt by Diaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Wollsey, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dylan Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diaz throws a head kick that misses.
Diaz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wollsey.
Diaz throws a chopping leg kick but Wollsey manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Diaz misses with a body kick.
Wollsey cracks Diaz with an open hand slap.
Diaz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Diaz misses with a lunging right hand
and Wollsey counters with a nice uppercut.
Diaz definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Wollsey throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Diaz blocks a jab.
Wollsey thumps Diaz with a low kick.
Diaz misses the shot to the body.
Diaz waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Wollsey.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Wollsey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wollsey is nestled in close to Diaz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Wollsey is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet.
Diaz is refusing to be controlled, as Wollsey sits in half guard.
Wollsey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wollsey wants to pass to mount but Diaz is defending the position.
Wollsey works his way into full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by Wollsey there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Diaz in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Diaz is desperately trying to improve his position but Wollsey has a good base and remains in mount.
Wollsey won't let Diaz get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wollsey scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Wollsey lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Diaz hang on?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wollsey connects with a bit shot that sees Diaz covering up! More strikes from Wollsey and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Wollsey is our winner by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mordecai Wollsey!
