PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dr Lex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dr Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr Lex!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr Rex!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Hemmingworth and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rex throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lex tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rex is in Lex's guard.
Rex seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rex keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lex's head.
Rex's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lex throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rex controlling from the top position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
It looks like Rex might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rex misses with a head kick.

Rex clinches up with Lex and pushes him back against the cage.
Rex jumps guard but Lex turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Rex has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lex avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Lex tries to break free but Rex pushes him back against the cage.
Rex keeps control of Lex as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Lex fails to pull guard.
A short uppercut from Rex.


It looks like Dr Lex has been cut.
Rex gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lex.
Lex is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rex to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dr Lex. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rex is trying to pull guard but Lex turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Lex tries to land knees in the clinch but Rex avoids the damage to the body.
Lex could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Lex wants a takedown.
Rex is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lex gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Rex is trying to break free.

Rex has Lex pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rex pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Lex tumbling to the mat - Rex dives into Lex's guard.
Rex is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Lex had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rex defends it easily.
Lex being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rex wants to stand but Lex has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lex wants to stand up but Rex is controlling him.
Lex not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Lex wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Lex has taken the fight to the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rex missing with knees to the body.
Rex looking for a takedown.
Rex fails to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dr Rex dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Dr Lex's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Lex tries to clinch up.
Lex fails with a takedown attempt.
Lex tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rex closes the distance and clinches up with Lex, looking for a takedown. Rex pushes Lex against the cage but Lex circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rex.
Lex shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rex sprawls well. Rex wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lex gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lex scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Rex forces Lex back against the cage and clinches.
Lex looking to slow down the pace here.
Rex is pressed up against the cage. Lex has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rex down to the mat. Rex avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dr Lex. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lex misses with the combination.
Rex has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rex is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lex sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Lex lands a jab-cross combination.
Lex throws a sloppy head kick and Rex moves out of range easily.
Lex throws a body kick that misses.
Rex shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lex defends it nicely.
Lex appears to be looking for a big counter.

Lex throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A head kick misses from Lex.

Lex rushes Rex and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Lex is trying to push Rex away but Rex has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rex has Lex pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lex manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lex pulls Rex into guard.
Lex is looking to stand back up but Rex counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Lex.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lex is trying to control but can't.
Rex working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rex drops an elbow to the side of Lex's head.
Rex is taking a breather. Lex says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Lex holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Lex wants to control but Rex is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Rex sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Rex is pressing down on Lex's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lex is holding on for now.
Lex has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rex is working away from the top position though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rex looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lex connects with a solid leg kick.
Rex dives in and grabs Lex's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lex pushes down on Rex's head and hops out.

Rex shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lex's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rex trying to control but Lex is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rex is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dr Lex dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Dr Lex's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Lex fails with a takedown attempt.
Rex shoots in but Lex avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lex drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rex sprawls and moves away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rex.
Lex is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rex advances nicely into full mount.
Lex is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lex is trying to escape the mount.
Rex tries to control but Lex wriggling away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rex cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rex prevents Lex from getting the reversal.

Rex is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Lex can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Rex fails to advance to Lex's back.
Rex is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lex can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rex looking to finish Lex with some ground and pound. This is bad for Lex!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rex lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Rex controlling from mount.
Rex wants to get back to his feet but Lex is holding on tight.
Rex takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lex is trying to reverse the position but instead Rex has taken his back - oops!
Lex is really stuck here.
Lex trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Lex is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Rex is looking for a rear naked choke here but Lex reverses the position brilliantly into Rex's guard!
Lex won't allow Rex to sweep him here.
Dr Lex has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dr Rex is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Dr Rex comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rex has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
