The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sandoval swinging wilding here.
Sandoval really is a fat lump.
A big left from Sandoval misses.
Kirby closes the distance and clinches up with Sandoval, looking for a takedown. Kirby pushes Sandoval against the cage but Sandoval circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kirby shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sandoval avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sandoval looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sandoval misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kirby scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Sandoval prevents Kirby from moving into mount.
Sandoval manages to get back to half guard.
Sandoval is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Sandoval moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Sandoval is trying to keep Kirby in close.
Kirby must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sandoval is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sandoval seems to be looking for submissions.
Sandoval frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kirby tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Sandoval has hold of Kirby's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kirby manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Sandoval looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Sandoval is breathing heavily.

Sandoval looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Kirby is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kirby stops Sandoval from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Kirby is working to get back to half guard.

Sandoval is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kirby can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Kirby tries to lock up and control but Sandoval gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sandoval is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Sandoval!
