Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bennett Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyrone Jones!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones with a lazy takedown attempt
and Russell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Russell wants to clinch.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged Russell in a clinch.
Russell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jones has him pressed against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Russell tries to pull guard but Jones holds him up against the cage and eventually Russell drops back down to his feet.
Jones goes for a takedown in the clinch but Russell prevents it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Jones tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Russell swivels and escapes.

Russell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jones is trying to improve his position.

Russell wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well.

Russell is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.

Russell tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones manages to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bennett Russell will probably get the nod.
That's time! Russell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jones lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Bennett Russell has been cut.

Russell rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.

Jones goes for a double leg but Russell avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Russell continues to drive forward.

Russell goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jones rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Russell's guard! Nice work there by Jones!

Russell uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Russell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Russell tries to keep at a distance but Jones has taken the fight into the clinch.
Russell is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Russell manages to pull guard.
Jones won't allow Russell to sweep him here.
Russell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jones won't allow Russell to get back to his feet.

Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Russell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Russell manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Russell's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bennett Russell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Russell tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Jones is able to avoid easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Russell was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Russell but Russell pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Russell walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Russell stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
Russell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Jones jumps into guard, dragging Russell to the mat.
Jones will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Russell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Russell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jones works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jones pulls Russell in close to his closed guard and prevents Russell from doing any damage or advancing position.
Jones looking to control.
Russell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.
Jones has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Russell has passed into side control.
Jones is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Russell's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Russell is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jones wants to get back to full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jones is trying to maintain the position but Russell is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Russell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Russell counters with a left and a right that stings Jones.

Tyrone Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
