PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vance Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that DJ King was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vance Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, DJ King!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
King throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
King goes for a double leg but Taylor avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Taylor continues to drive forward.

Taylor gets tackled into the cage by King. King maintains the clinch.

Taylor has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics King uses from the top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Taylor has control of King's left arm, preventing King from doing any damage.
Taylor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in King's guard.

Taylor avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Taylor accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Taylor would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

King wants to stand up but Taylor is controlling him.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
King is trying to keep Taylor in close.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from King. No joy for Taylor on that attempt.

King pushes Taylor up against the cage in a clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Taylor has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by King after a bit of a struggle.

Taylor pulls King into guard.
King wants to pass the guard but Taylor is keeping the position.

Taylor is controlling King's posture.
King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

King drops back, looking for a kneebar! Taylor looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Taylor looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Taylor!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
King is trying to buck Taylor off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Taylor's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Taylor throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King is looking to control Taylor's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can King avoid being mounted?
Taylor prevents King from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


King connects with a body shot.
King shoots in but no luck this time.
DJ King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

King gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
King has had enough of the clinch but Taylor keeps him there for the moment.
Taylor looking for a takedown.
King is trying to drag Taylor to the mat but Taylor just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Taylor tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. King smiles and moves away.

King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Taylor, pushing him back against the cage.

King gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Taylor.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vance Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
King tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
King is trying to stall.

Taylor is fighting off a takedown attempt but King is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Taylor to the mat. Taylor regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
King wants to control from the top but Taylor keeps moving.
King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

King tries to stand but Taylor is controlling from the bottom.

Taylor has his hands on King's head, controlling the position.

Taylor pulls King in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
King shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Taylor pinned against the cage. Taylor gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
King misses with a takedown attempt - Taylor sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

King shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Taylor's guard.
King is breathing heavily.

Taylor is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Taylor looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

King wants to pass the guard but Taylor is keeping the position.

DJ King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


King throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
King just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromTaylor.

Taylor gets caught flat footed, as King shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
King trying to control but Taylor is working from the bottom.

Taylor has his feet on King's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

King manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Taylor on his heels. He'll look to pass Taylor's guard now, I'm sure.
King is looking to stand up but Taylor won't let him.
Taylor has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Taylor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Taylor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. King manages to get himself to full guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

King is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Taylor is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

King rushes Taylor and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Taylor has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. King is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A nice right hand lands inside from King.

Taylor gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
King tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Taylor's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Taylor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Taylor accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
King wants to improve his position but instead Taylor has moved into half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Taylor connects with a nice short shot to King's temple.
King pushes Taylor off but Taylor dives into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Taylor working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vance Taylor showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Taylor has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
