PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rick Ashton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Ash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ashton's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Ashton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Adam Ash!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ash fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ash misses with a wild combination.
Ashton changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Ash lands the left hand.
Ash throws out a loose jab but Ashton uses good head movement to avoid it.
It looked like Ashton was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Ashton fails to land with a series of punches.
A telegraphed right hand from Ash misses the target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ashton.
Ash looks like he wants to counter punch here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ash misses with an uppercut. Ashton saw that one coming.
Ashton half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Ash scores with a nice head shot.
Ashton on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Ash misses with a few strikes there.

Ash changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ashton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Ash moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Ashton is not content to let Ash control the position.

Ashton is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Ashton tries to control but Ash manages to take his back.

Ashton wants to escape the position.

Ashton has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Ash.
Ash has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Ashton.
Ashton tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ash working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Ash looking to control but Ashton is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ashton wants to control but Ash is having none of it.
Ash lands a big shot there that rocks Ashton but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Ashton tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ash looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Ashton is trying to escape the mount.
Ash trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ash throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Ashton is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ashton is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Ash with shots to the head and body - Ashton looks very uncomfortable down there.

Ashton is squirming around, avoiding Ash's attempts to control the action.
Ashton slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Ash seems to be looking for submissions.
Ash performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Ashton is pressing down on Ash's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Ash working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ash trying to control but Ashton is working from the bottom.
Ash has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ashton is proving hard to escape from.
Ash wants to pass the guard but Ashton is keeping the position.
Ash postures up in Ashton's guard and throws a big left but Ashton blocks it.
Ashton is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ashton looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Ash dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ash misses the jab.

Ash has managed to clinch.
Ash misses with a short punch on the inside.

Ash breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ash looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rick Ashton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ashton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ashton seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Ashton bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ashton moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Ash throws the left hand but Ashton avoids the punch easily.
Ash lands a nice looking body kick.
Ashton blocks a head kick by Ash.
Ash misses with an uppercut. Ashton saw that one coming.
An attempted straight right counter from Ashton misses the target.

Ashton moves out of range of the strikes.
Ashton drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ash sprawls and moves away.

Ashton drives through with a takedown into Ash's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Ashton distracts Ash with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ash is on top in guard.

Ash advances position into side control!
Ashton is looking to regain half guard here but Ash keeps moving and retains side control.
Ash working away.
Ashton is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ashton gets back to half guard.

Ashton keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Ash trying to control from half guard but Ashton is working away.
Ash has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ash thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ashton's head.
Ash tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ashton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Adam Ash has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ashton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Ashton regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ash.

Ashton looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Ash is defending well. Ashton quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Ash has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Ashton celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rick Ashton!
Rick Ashton very nearly forgot to thank Maximum Vitality amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
