PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Hamhawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chuck Jones told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Jones!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Hamhawk shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hamhawk goes for a double leg but Jones avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jones continues to drive forward.
Hamhawk lands a nice shot to the body.
Hamhawk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hamhawk throws a combination. Jones tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Nice takedown defense from Hamhawk. No joy for Jones on that attempt.
Jones avoids the head kick by Hamhawk.

Hamhawk moves into the clinch.

Hamhawk pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hamhawk pulls guard.

Jones postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hamhawk is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jones, into his guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones is trying to keep Hamhawk in close.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones keeping moving, preventing Hamhawk from controlling successfully.
Hamhawk showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Hamhawk is proving a slippery customer.
Hamhawk wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jones is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hamhawk is aware though and is defending well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Hamhawk tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hamhawk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bryan Hamhawk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Jones.

Hamhawk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.

Hamhawk is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hamhawk is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Hamhawk wants to get back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Hamhawk seems content to control.
Jones is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hamhawk working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Jones turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Hamhawk off and cradles Jones's limp body as Hamhawk celebrates with his corner.
