PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Shouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dallas Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Joshua Shouse has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Joshua Shouse seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 33 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Shouse !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dallas Riley!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riley fails with the takedown

and Shouse counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Shouse stands up over Riley, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Shouse knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Riley on the ground.

Riley has his foot on Shouse 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shouse works his way back into a safe position though.

Riley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Shouse is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Riley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Riley has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shouse wants to hit a switch here but Riley passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Shouse there!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shouse is squirming around, avoiding Riley's attempts to control the action.
Shouse keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Shouse tries to hold on but Riley postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shouse wants to hold on but Riley pushes him away.
Shouse is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Shouse sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Riley is nestled in close to Shouse , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Riley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shouse keeps working.
Shouse might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Riley wants to pass to mount but Shouse is defending the position.

Riley wants to pass the guard but Shouse is defending well.
Shouse is not content to let Riley control the position.
Shouse is looking to control Riley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shouse avoid being mounted?
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Shouse is pulling down on Riley's head to control his posture.

Shouse shoots in for a takedown but Riley shows good takedown defense.
Joshua Shouse is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Shouse shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shouse was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Riley takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Shouse is trying to control. Riley wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Riley has his hands clasped together around Shouse 's back. He's all about the action.
Shouse tries to pass to full mount but Riley defends it.

Riley is staying active underneath Shouse , who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Riley shoots in but Shouse avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Shouse darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Riley has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Shouse is on him like a limpet, forcing Riley back against the cage.

Shouse tries to pull guard but Riley forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Riley is trying to break the clinch but Shouse is controlling him.

Shouse pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Riley doesn't manage to clinch there - Shouse circles away.
Shouse blocks a head kick by Riley.
Shouse changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Riley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shouse 's waist but Shouse gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Riley off to one side.
Riley misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shouse looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Riley is fending him off so far but Shouse persists. Nope, Riley circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joshua Shouse . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shouse is looking to counter the offense by Riley and move into the clinch.

Riley pushes Shouse off looking to stand but Shouse dives back in and keeps control.
Shouse tries to pass to full mount but Riley defends it.

Riley slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

That's time! Shouse 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Shouse shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Riley dives in for a single leg takedown but Shouse sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Riley thuds a left hand into Shouse 's body.
Riley lands with a nice combination. Shouse backs away looking to recover.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shouse looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Riley fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Riley tries to close the distance and clinch but Shouse swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shouse takes the fight into the clinch.
Riley is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Shouse turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Shouse manages to end up in side control.

Shouse is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Riley has escaped the position, nice work there.
Riley is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Shouse is controlling him well.
Riley struggling a bit here.
Riley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shouse wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Riley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Riley is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Shouse is staying active.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Riley is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Shouse off and has taken his back!
Shouse is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Riley is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Shouse has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Shouse is trying to get back to his feet but Riley has full control of the position and if anything, Shouse has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Riley keeps control of the position as Shouse tries to break free.
Riley scores with punches and elbows.

Shouse trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
I really don't envy Shouse right now.
Shouse trying to get back to his feet but Riley is in full control for now.
Riley tries to keep control of the position but Shouse is staying busy.
Riley struggling to land strikes to the head as Shouse covers up.

You can see the frustration on Shouse 's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shouse just trying to survive but Riley is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Shouse has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Riley.
Shouse takes a big shot to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dallas Riley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Riley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
