PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Urai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timothy Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Urai kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sever the Wicked. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Sam Urai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Timothy Robinson!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robinson throws a lazy right hand but Urai sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Urai seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Urai lands with a nice body punch.
Robinson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Urai.
Urai throws a body shot but no joy.
A nice side step and Robinson releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Robinson throws a hook but Urai avoids it easily.
Robinson dips to his left and cracks Urai with an uppercut!

Urai tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Robinson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Robinson ducks under a wild hook from Urai.
Urai connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Urai uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Robinson.
Robinson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Urai sprawls well. Urai wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Robinson gets slowly back to his feet.
Urai catches Robinson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Urai misses the shot to the body.
Urai takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Urai moves forwards but Robinson connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Robinson throws a jab but it's blocked by Urai.

Robinson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Urai throws a body punch but Robinson moves out of range.

Timothy Robinson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Robinson misses with an uppercut.
Robinson throws a big shot that misses.
Sam Urai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Robinson avoids a punch combination nicely.
A telegraphed right hand from Robinson misses the target.
Urai swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Urai. Robinson does a little dance to reset his feet.

Nice defenses there by Urai.
As Robinson tries to get set, Urai tries to push him back and clinch up but Robinson manages to avoid the attempt.

Urai was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Urai takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Urai forces Robinson back against the cage and clinches.
Urai keeps control of Robinson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Urai is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Robinson tries a body shot but Urai blocks it.
Robinson can't find room to land a body shot as Urai controls the action.

Robinson has hold of one of Urai's legs. Urai is fighting the takedown attempt but Robinson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Urai has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Robinson is proving hard to escape from.

Robinson is looking for a triangle but Urai pushes his legs off easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Robinson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Robinson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Urai is working away from the top position though.

Urai seems to be working for a kimura but Robinson defends the submission attempt.

Urai wants to stand up but Robinson is controlling the position.
Robinson is trying to maintain the position but Urai is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Urai will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Urai tries to move into range but Robinson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Robinson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Robinson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Robinson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Urai is fending him off so far but Robinson persists. Nope, Urai circles away and we're back to standing.
A combination from Urai does no damage.
Nice uppercut lands for Urai. That snapped Robinson's head back.
Robinson misses with a body shot.
A big left from Urai misses.
Urai gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Robinson loads up on a big right hand but Urai slips the punch.
Robinson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Urai connects with a good right hand that stumbles Robinson. Robinson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Urai punishes Robinson's body with a nice straight punch.
Urai lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Urai uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Robinson.
Urai throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Urai closes the distance and clinches.
Urai is leaning against Robinson and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Urai cracks Robinson with a nice body shot.
Robinson is breathing heavily.
Robinson takes a knee to the side of the body.
Urai tries a body shot but Robinson blocks it.
Urai tries to land a knee to the head but Robinson blocks with his arms.
Robinson throws a head punch that misses.
Urai lands an elbow just above Robinson 's eye.

Robinson drags the fight down to the ground.
Urai tries to stand but Robinson is controlling from the bottom.

Robinson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Urai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Urai manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Urai has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Urai passes Robinson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Robinson is looking to control Urai's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Robinson avoid being mounted?
It looks like Urai is going to stand back up.

Robinson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Urai's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Urai's back!
I really don't envy Urai right now.

Robinson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Urai has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Robinson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Urai tries to avoid it but Robinson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Urai to the ground. Urai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Urai has closed the distance and engaged Robinson in a clinch.
Urai tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Robinson's elbow.

Urai seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Urai is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Robinson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Urai.
Urai tries to stand but can't do so whilst Robinson controls his leg.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Robinson is trying to maintain the position but Urai is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Robinson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Urai throws a hook but Robinson blocks it.

Urai swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Robinson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Urai's waist but Urai gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Robinson off to one side.
It looked like Urai was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Sam Urai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timothy Robinson.
Robinson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Urai throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Urai thuds a left hand into Robinson's body.
Robinson throws a nice looking combination but Urai bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Robinson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Urai has time to react.
Urai takes one on the chin but seems OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Robinson fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Robinson throws a looping overhand right but Urai ducks down to avoid it.
Urai moves out of range of the strikes.
Urai throws a body shot but no joy.
A little jabbing left from Robinson on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Robinson gets tackled into the cage by Urai. Urai maintains the clinch.

Urai lands a damaging elbow.
Urai lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Urai obliges.
Robinson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Robinson can't get the takedown.
Urai lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Urai landing knees to the body.
Urai will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Robinson up against the cage.
