PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nicolas Watkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dark Lotus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dark Lotus!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watkins misses with a head kick.
Lotus throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Watkins sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Watkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Lotus changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Watkins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Lotus working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Lotus lands a nice forearm strike.
Lotus has control of an arm but Watkins manages to advance to Lotus's back!

Watkins working for a choke but Lotus reverses nicely into Watkins 's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Watkins is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Watkins wants to control but Lotus passes easily into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watkins wants to get back to full guard.

Lotus is trying to work for a kimura but Watkins is defending well.
Watkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lotus on the ground.
Lotus throwing shots but Watkins is blocking nicely.

Lotus decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Lotus throws the kick towards the body but Watkins avoids it.
Watkins shoots in but Lotus avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Lotus throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Watkins tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lotus is in Watkins's guard.
Lotus is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Watkins is looking to stand up but Lotus isn't so interested in that idea.
Watkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Watkins pulls Lotus in close to prevent any damage.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Lotus throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Watkins works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Lotus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lotus stands and steps away. Watkins gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Lotus decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Lotus is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Watkins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Watkins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lotus to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Watkins looking for a guillotine here but Lotus defends easily.
Lotus is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lotus would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Watkins throws a head kick but Lotus moves out of range.

Lotus fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Watkins to the ground. Lotus is now in Watkins's guard.
Lotus controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Watkins has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Lotus stands and steps away. Watkins gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lotus fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Watkins, pushing him back against the cage.
Watkins is trying to pull guard but Lotus turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dark Lotus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Watkins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Lotus decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Lotus working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lotus wants to stand but Watkins has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Watkins changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lotus tries to avoid it but Watkins manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lotus to the ground. Lotus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Despite the aggression on Lotus's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Nicolas Watkins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Watkins lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Lotus closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lotus lands in his opponent's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Watkins is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Lotus drops back, looking for a kneebar! Watkins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Watkins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Watkins!

Lotus manages to work his way to half guard, despite Watkins's best efforts.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Lotus kicks off Watkins and gets to his feet.
Watkins tries a head kick but it misses.
Lotus throws out a counter right but Watkins avoids it with no problem.
Lotus blocks a head kick by Watkins.
Lotus drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Watkins defends it well.
Lotus tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
As Lotus looks to move away, Watkins throws a big counter combo bu Lotus just gets out of the way.
Lotus throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Lotus closes the distance and pushes Watkins back into the cage.

Lotus wriggles free and stands up.

Lotus looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lotus prevents Watkins from improving his position.
Lotus is looking to take a break and control but Watkins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nicolas Watkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dark Lotus is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
