The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ayanami fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ayanami changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gomez tries to avoid it but Ayanami manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gomez to the ground. Gomez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ayanami tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gomez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
No joy there for Ayanami, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gomez lands with a straight right. Ayanami didn't see that one coming.

It looks like Rei Ayanami has been cut.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ayanami or perhaps it was just good defense by Gomez, which made it look bad.
Ayanami fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rei Ayanami. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gomez circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Ayanami to the canvas! Ayanami doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Gomez keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
