PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Ambrose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Ambrose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Bull!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ambrose changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bull tries to avoid it but Ambrose manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bull to the ground. Bull escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bull doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ambrose counters with a single leg into guard. Bull didn't expect that.
Ambrose looking to sit in guard and control but Bull gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Ambrose is working an open guard so Bull takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Bull throws a head kick that misses.

Ambrose has Bull up against the cage in a clinch.
Bull is trying to pull guard but Ambrose has him pressed against the cage.
Bull displaying some good clinch control by pressing Ambrose up against the cage.
Ambrose tries to pull guard but Bull won't allow it.

Bull jumps into guard, dragging Ambrose to the mat.
Bull looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ambrose stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bull swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ambrose trying to control the position from guard on top but Bull is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bull wants to hit a switch here but Ambrose passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Bull there!
Bull wants to control but Ambrose is having none of it.
Ambrose sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Bull is trying desperately to improve position.
Bull is in a horrible position here. Ambrose smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ambrose is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Bull has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Bull!
Bull stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ambrose swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ambrose has a closed guard, preventing Bull from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bull passes Ambrose's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bull throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ambrose is looking to control Bull's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ambrose avoid being mounted?
Bull is looking to take a break and control but Ambrose is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ambrose has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bull is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ambrose wants to get back to his feet.
Bull wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ambrose keeps working.
Bull might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ambrose haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Bull has managed to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ambrose keeps control of Bull as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jack Bull will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ambrose swats away the attempt to clinch by Bull.
Bull tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ambrose sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bull somewhat.
Ambrose is looking for a counter combo.

Bull shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ambrose's guard.

Ambrose looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Bull passes into side control.

Bull stands up and we're back to a striking position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ambrose scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Ambrose decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Ambrose drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ambrose is looking to take a break and control but Bull is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ambrose tries to advance to mount but can't.
Bull wants to control but Ambrose postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bull avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ambrose.

Ambrose decides to stand back up. Ambrose steps back and let's Bull get back to his feet.
Bull tries to clinch there but Ambrose circles away.
It looked like Ambrose wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Ambrose closes the distance and pushes Bull back into the cage.
Ambrose tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bull just stands there and leans against the cage.
Ambrose wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Bull breaks from the clinch.
Bull throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bull shoots for a takedown but Ambrose saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Bull.
Ambrose connects with the punch.

Ambrose pushes Bull up against the cage in a clinch.
Bull is trying to force a seperation but Ambrose has the dominant position.
Bull goes for a takedown attempt but Ambrose pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Dean Ambrose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Bull.

and Ambrose counters with a single leg into guard. Bull didn't expect that.
Ambrose working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bull's head.
Ambrose pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bull is keeping the position for now.
Ambrose throws a big elbow that misses.

Ambrose gets to his feet. Bull looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ambrose closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bull quickly recovers to half guard.
Bull is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ambrose not doing much here.
Bull wants to control but Ambrose is keeping busy.
Ambrose wants to control but Bull is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Ambrose dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ambrose is defended easily by Bull.
Bull tries a quick counter leg kick but Ambrose is wise to it.
Bull misses with a takedown attempt - Ambrose sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Ambrose gets tackled into the cage by Bull. Bull maintains the clinch.
Ambrose is trying to pull guard but Bull has him pressed against the cage.
Ambrose tries to pull guard but Bull won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Ambrose. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ambrose takes an elbow to the forehead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bull pulls guard effortlessly.
Bull wants to stand and escape but Ambrose is having none of it.

Bull can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ambrose controls the pace.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Bull manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Ambrose has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bull is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bull is trying to pull guard but Ambrose has him pressed against the cage.
Bull tries to stall but Ambrose uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Ambrose breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ambrose shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ambrose displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bull.

Ambrose stuffs the takedown attempt from Bull. Bull gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck for Ambrose with that takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bull looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ambrose went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Ambrose throws a series of punches but Bull moves out of range.
Bull tries to clinch there but Ambrose circles away.
Ambrose changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Bull lands a nice shot to the body.

Ambrose moves into range and clinches up with Bull.
Bull is trying to break free.
Bull misses with an elbow strike.

Bull jumps guard but Ambrose stands there with Bull around his waist. Bull gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bull struggles to land a body shot inside as Ambrose controls his hands.
Ambrose looking for a takedown.
Bull trying to stall but Ambrose improves his position.
Bull tries to pull guard but Ambrose forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Ambrose breaks from the clinch.
Dean Ambrose is winning the standup battle so far.

Bull fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ambrose sprawls well initially but Bull persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bull takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bull is keen to just control but Ambrose is a slippery customer.
Ambrose is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ambrose manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Ambrose's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Bull comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bull has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
