Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cobalt Khalil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khalil's entrance music is The Hives - Walk Idiot Walk. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cobalt Khalil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Soares!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soares throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Khalil shoots in for a takedown but Soares shows good takedown defense.
A punch lands to the side of Khalil 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Khalil bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Khalil dives in and scores a takedown into Soares's guard.
Khalil throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Soares works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Soares really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Khalil. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Khalil chips away with some ground and pound.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Soares wants to stand but Khalil is controlling the position.
Khalil trying to control the position from guard on top but Soares is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khalil tries to free his leg and advance position but Soares is retaining full guard.
Khalil prevents Soares from getting back to his feet.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khalil accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Khalil is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Soares listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

and Khalil counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Khalil throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Khalil works his foot free and advances to mount.
Soares trying desperately to get to his feet.
Khalil is landing with some decent strikes but Soares is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Soares wants to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Soares can do anything to dispel that myth.
Khalil looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Soares's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

You get the feeling that Soares really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Khalil lands with some strikes.
Khalil has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Khalil won't let Soares get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Khalil lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Khalil postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Soares looks a forlorn figure.
Khalil won't let Soares get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Khalil thuds a left hand into Soares's body.
Khalil comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Soares misses with a body shot.
Khalil tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Soares defends well and Khalil ends up having to push Soares into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Soares changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Khalil looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Soares misses with an uppercut. Khalil saw that one coming.
Soares just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice defenses there by Khalil.
Soares missing with a left hand there. Khalil was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
As Soares tries to get set, Khalil tries to push him back and clinch up but Soares manages to avoid the attempt.
Soares is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Khalil.
Khalil shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Soares as he avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Soares! But no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Soares throws the left hand but Khalil avoids the punch easily.
Soares throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Khalil stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Khalil tries to counter by clinching up but Soares breaks away and moves out of range.
Lucas Soares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Khalil looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Soares with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Soares has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Cobalt Khalil showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Khalil, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
