PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avery comes to the cage accompanied by Godspeed - Throwdown. Rush is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Scandal / Shunkan Sentimental. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Rush!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avery throws a leg kick but Rush sees it coming and moves out of range.
Rush steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Avery.
Avery stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Avery feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rush's calf.
Sean Avery seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Avery misses with a low kick.
Rush tries to clinch up.

and Rush counters with a nice leg kick.
Avery lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Rush has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Avery fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Rush checks it well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avery gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Rush connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Avery's hands.
Avery throws the kick towards the body but Rush avoids it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Avery's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rush connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Avery scrambles back to his feet.
Rush just misses with a punch to the body.
Avery looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Rush ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Avery moves away.
Rush throws a leg kick but Avery sees it coming and moves out of range.
Avery turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Rush clinches.
Avery's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Rush lands a left hand.

Avery is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Avery blocks a body shot from Rush.
Rush tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Avery's elbow.

Avery breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Avery connects with an inside leg kick.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Avery cracks Rush with a big right hand but Rush just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Rush is trying to get back to half guard.

Avery goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rush has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Avery but great work by Rush.
Rush takes a little break here. Avery wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Avery on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Avery tries to get out of the position.
Avery manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Rush wants to get back to full guard.
Avery not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Avery throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Avery is looking to advance position but Rush won't allow it.

Avery is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rush doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Avery.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Avery dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rush lands a body shot.
Avery displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rush throws out the jab.

Avery drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Avery connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Rush some visible discomfort.


It looks like Brandon Rush has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rush is looking for a sweep.
Avery throws a strike aimed at the side of Rush's head but Rush avoids it well.
Rush tries to bench press Avery off him but Avery keeps the position.

Avery tries for a kimura but Rush is defending well.
Rush tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Avery wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Avery tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Rush manages to get back to half guard.
Avery uses his free foot to push down on Rush's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rush.
Rush is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Avery looking to finish Rush with some ground and pound. This is bad for Rush!
Poor strikes thrown by Avery there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Avery lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rush hang on?
Rush can't escape the position.
Avery is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rush can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


The cut above Brandon Rush's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Brandon Rush's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
