PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Droom Drillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drillo is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Drillo is breathing heavily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Santos.
Drillo throws a body punch but Santos moves out of range.

Santos has closed the distance and engaged Drillo in a clinch.
Santos using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Drillo has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Santos tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Santos lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Santos lands a body punch.

Santos jumps guard.
Santos bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Drillo's guard.

Santos wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Drillo, who protects the arm well.
Santos tries to move into full mount but can't pass Drillo's legs.
Drillo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Santos on the ground.

Santos stands up and we're back to a striking position.
The fight stays on the outside here - Santos looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Santos misses with a takedown attempt - Drillo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Droom Drillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Santos.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Santos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Drillo's waist but Drillo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santos off to one side.
Santos looks to land a combination but Drillo avoids it well.
Santos shoots for a double leg takedown but Drillo sprawls well. He's pushed Santos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Santos has taken the fight to the clinch.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Santos pulls Drillo in close to his closed guard and prevents Drillo from doing any damage or advancing position.

Drillo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos shoots in for a takedown but Drillo shows good takedown defense.
Drillo throws a nice outside leg kick.
Drillo uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Santos has time to react.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Santos gets control of Drillo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Santos will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Drillo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Santos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Drillo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Drillo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Paulo Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A nice leg kick lands there from Drillo.
Drillo wants to clinch.
Drillo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Santos moves away.

Santos looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Santos prevents Drillo from standing back up.

Santos is tying to control. Drillo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Santos is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Drillo has one foot on Santos's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Santos chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Drillo can pounce on him.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Drillo but Drillo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Horrible takedown by Santos or perhaps it was just good defense by Drillo which made him look bad.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Santos is stalling here but it's allowed Drillo to get half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Drillo wriggles free and stands up.
