PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vance Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Wick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vance Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Wick!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wick fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Taylor tries to sprawl but Wick drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Wick wants to advance to full mount but Taylor doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Taylor is adopting a defensive guard.
Wick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Taylor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wick loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Taylor is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wick tries to score a power double leg takedown but Taylor sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wick somewhat.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Vance Taylor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Wick.

Wick closes the distance and clinches.
Wick changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Taylor fights it off and pushes away nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wick.
Taylor tried to counter with a leg kick but Wick avoided it.
Taylor tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Wick defends well and Taylor ends up having to push Wick into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Wick manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Wick wants to stand but Taylor is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wick pushes Taylor off and scrambles back to his feet.
Wick throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Taylor's waist but Taylor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wick off to one side.
Taylor appears to be looking for a big counter.
Wick shoots in looking for a takedown but Taylor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wick's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Wick throws a sloppy head kick
and Taylor counters with a series of strikes. Wick will be more careful next time no doubt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wick enables Taylor to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wick manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Taylor working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Taylor working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Wick's head.
Taylor postures up in Wick's guard and throws a big left but Wick blocks it.

That was a close round but I would say that Vance Taylor will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Taylor counters with a big head kick but Wick shrugs it off.

Wick throws a series of punches but Taylor moves out of range.
Taylor throws a counter high kick but Wick was just alert enough to avoid it.
Wick shoots in looking for a takedown but Taylor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wick's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Taylor misses with a takedown attempt - Wick sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

A slapping body kick lands there for Wick.

Wick moves into the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Taylor - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Wick escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wick swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Taylor throws a big counter combination but Wick scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Wick closes the distance and pushes Taylor back into the cage.

Taylor pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
John Wick is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Taylor fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vance Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Wick.

Wick dives in and scores a takedown into Taylor's guard.
Wick throws a strike but Taylor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Taylor has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Taylor is working Wick over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Wick has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Taylor keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wick's head.

Wick looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Wick moves into range and clinches up with Taylor.
Taylor is trying to pull guard but Wick turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Wick tries to score a body lock takedown but Taylor shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Wick is breathing heavily.
Taylor is looking to take this one to the mat.

John Wick showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Taylor shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wick is trying to defend but Taylor finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Wick is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Taylor lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Taylor.

Taylor keeps control of the position easily here as Wick tries to buck him off.
