PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Matthews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Butch Jenkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Butch Jenkins was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Butch Jenkins!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews shoots in and drives through. Jenkins sprawls well.
Jenkins lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Matthews falls off balance throwing a combination

and Jenkins counters with a shoot takedown. Matthews fights it but they end up in guard.

Jenkins tries to free his leg and advance position but Matthews is retaining full guard.
Jenkins is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matthews on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Matthews tries to get out of the position.
Matthews is trying to keep Jenkins in close.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Matthews tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jenkins swats him away and circles back towards the center.

We've been informed that Jenkins has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Jenkins avoids the head kick by Matthews.
Despite the aggression on Jenkins's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Matthews shoots in but Jenkins avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jenkins drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Matthews defends it well.
Matthews shoots in for a double leg but Jenkins sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jenkins stuffs the takedown.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matthews fails with a takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Jenkins's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nice sprawl there from Jenkins as Matthews shoots in.
Jenkins is looking for the big counter here.
Matthews shoots for a takedown but Jenkins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And Jenkins tries to counter it with a takedown but Matthews pushes his down on his head and steps out.

The referee asks Jenkins politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jenkins prefers to stall for the moment though.
Matthews tries to buck Jenkins off but Jenkins is having none of it.
Jenkins just content to control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jenkins working the body and head with strikes.
The referee asks Jenkins politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jenkins prefers to stall for the moment though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jenkins content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Butch Jenkins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Matthews misses with a takedown

and Jenkins decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Matthews's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Let's hope that Jenkins has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Matthews wants to clinch.
Jenkins drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Matthews defends it well.

Jenkins is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Butch Jenkins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jenkins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
