PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Apollo Creed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikko Luolanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mikko Luolanen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Apollo Creed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Luolanen!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Creed with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Luolanen looks to throw the jab but Creed is out of range.
Luolanen misses with a straight left.
Luolanen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Creed misses with a straight left.
Creed lands a leg kick that knocks Luolanen off balance momentarily.
Creed tries to move into range but Luolanen moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Luolanen throws a right hand that Creed ducks under and follows up with a left that Creed also avoids with ease.
Luolanen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Creed connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Luolanen scrambles back to his feet.

Creed closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Creed working away.

Creed tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Creed has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The strikes coming from Creed are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Luolanen parries the strikes from Creed easily there. Creed is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Luolanen to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Luolanen is trying to get back to half guard.
Creed trying to control the action but Luolanen is working from the bottom.
Creed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Creed throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Creed is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Luolanen has escaped the position, nice work there.
Creed lands a decent elbow from side control.
Creed landing a few strikes.
Creed working the ground and pound.
Creed misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Luolanen takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Creed postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Creed in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Luolanen wants to get back to his feet.
Luolanen is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

It looks like Mikko Luolanen has been cut.
Creed scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Luolanen is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Creed can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
