Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nigel McGuiness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGuiness throws a series of strikes that have Pierre backpedaling.


It looks like Jerome Pierre has been cut.

McGuiness changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pierre looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McGuiness really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pierre. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pierre pushes McGuiness away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, McGuiness gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pierre is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on McGuiness's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Pierre wants to control but McGuiness is keeping busy and won't allow it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Pierre displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McGuiness throws out the jab.

Pierre has McGuiness pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. McGuiness manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
McGuiness blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Pierre tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McGuiness smiles and moves away.

Pierre takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

McGuiness tries to clinch but Pierre is having none of it.
Pierre takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGuiness throws a low kick but it's checked well by Pierre.
McGuiness is looking to clinch.
McGuiness throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pierre.
Pierre shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McGuiness as he avoids it easily.
McGuiness lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pierre is looking to control McGuiness's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pierre avoid being mounted?

Nigel McGuiness showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


McGuiness throws a head kick but Pierre moves out of range.
Pierre circles away from the clinch attempt
and Pierre counters with a head kick. That will keep McGuiness thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

McGuiness shoots for a double leg takedown but Pierre sprawls well. He's pushed McGuiness's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pierre is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

You can see the frustration on McGuiness's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McGuiness's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Pierre punching from mount but McGuiness doing a good job of avoiding damage.
McGuiness is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
McGuiness wants to try and get back to his feet.

Pierre looking to secure an arm triangle but McGuiness defends it well.
McGuiness tries to lock up and control but Pierre gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Pierre can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McGuiness is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pierre sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Pierre wants to control the pace but McGuiness is squirming around nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McGuiness holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Pierre tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
McGuiness avoids a series of strikes thrown by Pierre.
McGuiness is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Pierre seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but McGuiness is holding on tight.
