PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Orlin Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drake Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Orlin Junior!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Drake Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson tries for a takedown but Junior sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Junior pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Anderson looks for a takedown but Junior sprawls well.
Anderson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Anderson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Junior tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Anderson is in Junior's guard.
Anderson throws an elbow that misses. Junior uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Anderson's guard. Nice move by Junior!


Junior drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Junior jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Junior has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Anderson is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Anderson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Junior is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Anderson defends it well.
Anderson tries to roll over but Junior keeps him under control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Anderson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Junior did well to prevent Anderson getting side control.

Junior might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Anderson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Anderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Junior's waist but Junior gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anderson off to one side.

Junior keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Junior changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Anderson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Junior wants to control for a moment but Anderson uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Drake Anderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anderson is not content to let Junior control the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Anderson can do anything to dispel that myth.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Junior but Junior pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Junior throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Anderson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Junior went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Junior throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Anderson was covering up waiting for the punch and Junior finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Junior has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
