Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yoel Askren!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Brooks.
Askren swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Brooks throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Brooks lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Askren circles away quickly and effectively.
Askren throws a right and a left that Brooks avoids nicely.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Brooks checks a leg kick.
Brooks looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Askren lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Brooks throws a sloppy head kick and Askren moves out of range easily.

Askren rushes Brooks and presses him up against the cage.

Askren ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Askren no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Askren manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brooks manages to get himself to full guard.

Askren's coach down at Midnight MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Askren's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Brooks is pressed up against the cage. Askren has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Brooks down to the mat. Brooks avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
