Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wilber Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Wates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles Wates told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wates circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wates tries to clinch up but Grant circles away and keeps his distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wates.
Charles Wates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wates shoots in for a double leg but Grant sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wates throws a sloppy head kick and Grant moves out of range easily.
Wates has his takedown stuffed
and Grant counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wilber Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Wates.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wates doesn't manage to clinch there - Grant circles away.
Grant is looking for a counter combo.
Wates tries to sprawl but Grant drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Grant wants to get up but he can't break Wates's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Grant gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Wates tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Grant is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Wates.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Grant defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wates.
Wates lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Grant circles away quickly and effectively.
Wates closes this distance looking for a takedown but Grant circles away.
Grant drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wates sprawls and moves away.
Wates has managed to clinch.
Grant has Wates pressed against the cage, preventing Wates from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Wates decides to pull guard.
Wates wants to hit a switch here but Grant passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wates there!
Wates wants to hold on but Grant pushes him away.

Wates tries to improve his position but instead Grant has taken his back!

Grant gets his hands free as Wates looks to control.
Wates is really stuck here.
Grant is looking for the choke from the back position but Wates is controlling his hands well.
Wates can't escape the position.

Grant is punishing Wates with some ground and pound.
Wates fending off the submission attempt from Grant.
Wates is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Grant gets his way!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wates has hold of Grant's leg, trying to break free but it's let Grant lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Wates is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Grant throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.
