PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marcelino Holland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Sai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Sai will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marcelino Holland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Sai!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sai misses the shot to the body.
Sai fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Holland tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sai paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sai tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Holland swivels and escapes.
Holland half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
The fighters circling - Holland throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Holland scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sai tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Holland was well out of range. Poor timing from Sai.
Holland was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Sai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sai tries for a takedown but Holland sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Holland throws a quick counter kick to the body but Sai avoids it.
Marcelino Holland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Sai.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holland forces Sai back against the cage and clinches.
Sai fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Holland drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sai tries to pull guard but Holland holds him up against the cage and eventually Sai drops back down to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sai blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Holland tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sai smiles and moves away.
Holland avoids the head kick by Sai.

Sai gets a clinch.

Holland pulls guard successfully.
Sai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Holland swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sai throws a big right hand that misses.
Sai in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Holland manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Sai drags the fight down to the ground.
Holland stands up over Sai, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Holland content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holland lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sai doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Sai is working an open guard so Holland takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Sai has his takedown stuffed
and Holland counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sai shoots for a takedown but Holland saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sai is trying hard to land a takedown here. Holland sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Holland tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sai manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sai throws out a counter right but Holland avoids it with no problem.

Sai moves into the clinch.

Holland successfully pulls guard.
Holland really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Holland pushes a forearm under Sai's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sai is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marcelino Holland!
