PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Gragula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nobero Shimasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nobero Shimasaki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Viktor Gragula!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nobero Shimasaki!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shimasaki throws a nice head kick!
Gragula takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gragula checks a leg kick.

Shimasaki looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Gragula is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Shimasaki trying to control but Gragula is working from the bottom.

Shimasaki stands up from guard. Let's bang!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shimasaki throws a sloppy head kick and Gragula moves out of range easily.
Shimasaki throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Shimasaki attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A little feinted left hand from Gragula on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Shimasaki.
Gragula drops down looking for a counter takedown but Shimasaki sprawls and moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A nice inside leg kick there by Shimasaki. That's going to slow Gragula down.
Shimasaki explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Shimasaki connects with a leg kick. Gragula looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Shimasaki fails with the takedown.
Shimasaki throws a head kick but Gragula moves out of range.
Shimasaki lands with a hook. Gragula tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Shimasaki moves into range and clinches up with Gragula.

Gragula has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Shimasaki clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gragula working for a choke but Shimasaki reverses nicely into Gragula 's guard.

Gragula looking for subs off his back but Shimasaki has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shimasaki perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gragula manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Gragula looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shimasaki with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gragula utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Gragula has an active guard here but Shimasaki has managed to pass into half guard.
Shimasaki wants to stand up but Gragula has a hold of him and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gragula has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Shimasaki is on him like a limpet, forcing Gragula back against the cage.
Shimasaki looking to throw knees to the head but Gragula is blocking nicely.

Gragula gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Gragula working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shimasaki's head.
Gragula trying to control the position from guard on top but Shimasaki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gragula is really struggling to control Shimasaki but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Gragula drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Shimasaki dives on top into guard.

Gragula looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gragula keeping moving, preventing Shimasaki from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shimasaki won't allow Gragula to get back to his feet.
Shimasaki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gragula is keeping the position for now.

Gragula looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shimasaki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gragula looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Shimasaki stands and steps away. Gragula gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gragula stands and throws Shimasaki's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nobero Shimasaki will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Shimasaki throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Gragula shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shimasaki's guard.
Gragula throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gragula looking to sit in guard and control but Shimasaki gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shimasaki tries to stand but Gragula is controlling from the bottom.

Gragula looking for a guillotine here but Shimasaki defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gragula pushes a forearm under Shimasaki's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Shimasaki is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Viktor Gragula!
A very excited looking Viktor Gragula made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Nobero Shimasaki was interviewed post fight and said 'Team Goroshi - Kore Fight Nutrition - Dudes Gym'.
