The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valeres swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Richard misses with a takedown attempt

and Valeres counters by moving into the clinch.

Valeres breaks the clinch.
Valeres misses with a double jab
and Richard counters with a nice uppercut.

Valeres closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Richard's guard.
Valeres content to stall in guard here.
Valeres distracts Richard with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valeres's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Valeres wants to stand and escape but instead Richard has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Richard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Richard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Valeres working for submissions but it's allowed Richard to get to half guard.
Valeres is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Richard's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Richard's back!

Valeres has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Richard! Can he survive? No! He's out! Valeres gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
