PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lance Cotton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirov Mays (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lance Cotton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kirov Mays!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Watson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mays changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cotton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cotton sneaks back into half guard.
Mays is trying to control. Cotton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mays works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cotton takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cotton wants to control but Mays is having none of it.
Cotton is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cotton wants to improve his position but Mays is controlling well.
Cotton is staying active underneath Mays, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mays decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Mays feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mays stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cotton swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cotton holds on and takes a little breather.

It looks like Lance Cotton has been cut.
Mays fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cotton manages to avoid it.
Cotton seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Mays closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cotton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's time! Cotton's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Cotton doesn't manage to clinch there - Mays circles away.
Cotton fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mays checks it well.

Mays throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cotton was covering up waiting for the punch and Mays finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cotton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mays must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Mays. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Cotton shoots in and drives through. Mays sprawls well.
Despite the aggression on Mays's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Mays shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cotton manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Mays slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mays looking to sit in guard and control but Cotton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mays pulls Cotton in close to prevent any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mays is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cotton has a closed guard, preventing Mays from standing up.
Mays trying to control but Cotton is working from the bottom.
Mays might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cotton haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Mays is breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mays is fighting to break Cotton's control of his arms but Cotton is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Cotton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mays won't allow Cotton to sweep him here.

Cotton is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Cotton is not content to let Mays control the position.
Mays throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mays is stalling here. Cotton is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mays seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cotton has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Mays closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cotton quickly recovers to half guard.

Kirov Mays is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Mays has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
