The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michaels misses with a body shot.
A little feinted left hand from Barrera on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Michaels shoots in looking for a takedown. Barrera tries to sprawl out of it but Michaels keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Barrera manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Barrera tried to counter with a leg kick but Michaels avoided it.
Barrera displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Michaels.

Barrera could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Barrera is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Michaels is refusing to be controlled, as Barrera sits in half guard.
Michaels is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Michaels keeping hold of Barrera's head, controlling as best he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Barrera throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Michaels tries to roll over but Barrera keeps him under control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Michaels can do anything to dispel that myth.

Barrera is looking for a kimura here.

Michaels is concentrating on defense, preventing Barrera from advancing position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Michaels throws a head kick that Barrera semi-blocks.

It looks like Barry Barrera has been cut.
Michaels gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Barrera counters with a head kick. That will keep Michaels thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Barrera wants to control but Michaels is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Michaels tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barrera sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Michaels somewhat.
Barrera darts in looking for a takedown but Michaels gets double underhooks and turns Barrera into the cage.
Michaels shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Barrera as he avoids it easily.
Michaels tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barrera manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Michaels closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Barrera's guard.

Barrera is looking for a triangle but Michaels pushes his legs off easily.
Michaels slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Michaels really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barrera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Barrera tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Michaels wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Barrera is working hard here to advance position.
Michaels in side control lands a decent elbow.
Barrera takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Michaels is working Barrera over with some ground and pound from side control.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Michaels. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Michaels controls the position.
Michaels gets to mount! Barrera was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Barrera chipping away with body shots but they're not going to hurt Michaels.
Barrera is desperately trying to improve his position but Michaels has a good base and remains in mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
