Tommy Taylor struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 137.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Mata Hughes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mata Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Taylor looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Taylor preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Hughes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hughes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Taylor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes controls from within his opponent's guard.

Hughes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hughes postures up and lands a big shot to Taylor's brow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Taylor wants to get back to his feet but Hughes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hughes's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Hughes chips away with some ground and pound.
Hughes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hughes looks up at the clock and then as Taylor takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hughes smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Hughes is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hughes is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Taylor is trying to escape and Hughes transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Taylor is forced to tap! Nice work there by Hughes! Very nice indeed!
