Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moon scores with a crisp jab that stopped Patterson in his tracks.

Patterson shoots in and gets a takedown into Moon's guard.
Patterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Moon is looking for a triangle here but Patterson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Moon is looking for a sweep.
Patterson working the ground and pound but Moon is defending the strikes.
Patterson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Moon is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ground and pound from Patterson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Let's hope that Patterson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Moon wants to control but Patterson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Patterson controlling the action here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Patterson wants to free his trapped foot but Moon is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Moon is trying to stand.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Moon looks to throw the jab but Patterson is out of range.
Moon gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Patterson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Patterson.

Moon working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Patterson has passed into half guard!
Patterson is taking a breather. Moon says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Moon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Patterson is working away from the top position though.
Moon keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Moon has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Patterson escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Patterson!
Moon tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Moon tries to bench press Patterson off him but Patterson keeps the position.
Moon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Patterson off and has taken his back!
Moon is hanging on to Patterson's back as he tries to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Patterson rolls, trying to escape but Moon keeps control of the position.

Moon patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Patterson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Patterson takes one to the side of the head.
Moon slaps away a takedown attempt from Patterson, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Patterson shoots in and bounces Moon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Patterson wants to get up but he can't break Moon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Patterson passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moon is trying to control but can't.

Moon looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Patterson uses his free foot to push down on Moon's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Moon.
Patterson looking to control and managing it successfully.
Patterson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Moon can't escape the position.
Frank Patterson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Patterson content just to control the position here.
Moon is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Moon is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Patterson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Moon is surviving well by controlling Patterson's body position as best he can.
Moon is trying to reverse the position but instead Patterson has taken his back - oops!
Moon is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Moon covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Patterson has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Patterson has the hooks in. Moon is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Moon manages to reverse the position and now he's in Patterson's guard. Nice work there by Moon.

Patterson seems keen to control Moon's posture.
Moon stopping the sweep attempt from Patterson.
Moon wants to control from the top but Patterson keeps moving.

Moon drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Patterson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Moon has Patterson in his guard.

Moon wants to sweep but no luck.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Patterson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Moon is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Patterson has his hands clasped together but Moon extends and breaks Patterson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Moon.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Howard Moon!
In his post fight interview, Howard Moon started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
