PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Emmitt Koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Young is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Berzerk by Eminem. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Emmitt Koch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Young!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young fails with the takedown.
Koch seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Young fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Koch on the side of the head.
Koch uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Young.
Young looks to land a combination. Koch sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Emmitt Koch has been cut.
Young fails with a takedown attempt.
Koch shoots in for a double leg but Young sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Young tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Young is looking to clinch.
Koch circles away from the clinch attempt.
Young shoots in for a takedown but Koch shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Young is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Koch closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Koch seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Young for as long as he can get away with.

Young seems a little lost for a moment, as Koch dominates the positioning.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Young is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Young gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Koch to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Koch not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Koch thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Young swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That was a close round but I would say that Emmitt Koch will probably get the nod.

Young tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Koch defends well and Young ends up having to push Koch into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Young closes the distance and clinches up with Koch, looking for a takedown. Young pushes Koch against the cage but Koch circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Young throws a series of punches but Koch moves out of range.

Koch shoots in and bounces Young off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Koch looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Koch throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Young works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Young isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Koch stacks Young on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Koch!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Young tries to score a power double leg takedown but Koch sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Young somewhat.

Young is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Koch is controlling the pace.
Koch wants to stand but Young has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Koch is nestled in close to Young, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Young tries to kick Koch off but Koch keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Young misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Koch takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Koch tries to clinch up but Young circles away and keeps his distance.
Emmitt Koch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Young fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Koch avoids it really well and circles away.
Young is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
As Young tries to get set, Koch tries to push him back and clinch up but Young manages to avoid the attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Young pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Koch is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Young clinches with his opponent.
Koch tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Young just stands there and leans against the cage.
Koch is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Young to keep the fight standing.
Young's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Koch gets control of Young's arms and successfully pulls guard. Koch will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Young must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Koch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Koch dives in and grabs Young's left leg, looking for a takedown. Young pushes down on Koch's head and hops out.
Young throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Koch jumps guard but Young stands there with Koch around his waist. Koch gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Koch manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Young on his heels. He'll look to pass Young's guard now, I'm sure.

Koch slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Young looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Young is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Koch sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Young shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Koch as he avoids it easily.
A head kick misses from Young.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Koch fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Young avoids it really well and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Emmitt Koch.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Koch, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
