PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colt Hardin Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Griggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chad Griggs was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Colt Hardin Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chad Griggs!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griggs throws the left hand but Hardin Jr avoids the punch easily.
Hardin Jr takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Griggs goes for a double leg but Hardin Jr avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hardin Jr continues to drive forward.
A quick step to the side and Hardin Jr tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
A looping hook to the body misses from Griggs. Hardin Jr does a little dance to reset his feet.

Hardin Jr closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Griggs quickly recovers to half guard.
Griggs avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hardin Jr.
Hardin Jr thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Griggs wants to control but Hardin Jr is keeping busy.
Well, if Hardin Jr is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griggs regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Griggs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Griggs is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hardin Jr keeping control of the position.
Griggs not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Griggs trying to pass the guard but Hardin Jr defending well.
Hardin Jr is looking for a sweep. Griggs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Griggs not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hardin Jr wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hardin Jr is trying to maintain the position but Griggs is very close to passing his half guard.
Griggs is keen to just control but Hardin Jr is a slippery customer.
Griggs not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Griggs throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hardin Jr sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hardin Jr appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Nice cross by Griggs.
Hardin Jr throws a body punch but Griggs moves out of range.
Griggs throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Griggs lands a really nice looking cross but Hardin Jr seems unphased.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hardin Jr.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hardin Jr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griggs keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Griggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Griggs is looking to reverse the position.
Griggs is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hardin Jr throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hardin Jr lands strikes from half guard.
Hardin Jr not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Griggs is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Griggs tries to roll over but Hardin Jr keeps him under control.
Griggs keeps trying to improve his position.
Hardin Jr missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Griggs is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Griggs wants to get back to full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hardin Jr is thwarting Griggs's attempts to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Griggs scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Griggs thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Griggs landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chad Griggs will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Griggs lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Griggs feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Hardin Jr sprawling to the canvas! Hardin Jr rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Griggs finish him?!


Hardin Jr is rocked!
Hardin Jr closes the distance and clinches up with Griggs, looking for a takedown. Hardin Jr pushes Griggs against the cage but Griggs circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Oh Hardin Jr is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Griggs catches Hardin Jr with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Hardin Jr forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Chad Griggs!
Chad Griggs decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
