Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Brophy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Brophy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rafael Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brophy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Brophy drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mendes wants to get back to his feet but Brophy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brophy wants to pass the guard but Mendes is keeping the position.
Brophy is pushing down on Mendes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mendes is fighting to maintain full guard but Brophy has managed to sneak the leg through.
Brophy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mendes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Brophy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mendes manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Brophy has Mendes in his guard.

Brophy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Mendes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Brophy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mendes wants to control from the top but Brophy keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Brophy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Brophy drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mendes looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mendes looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mendes!
