PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gerald Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ouyang Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith's entrance music is Territorial Pissings. A fine choice. The key to victory for Gerald Smith has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gerald Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ouyang Kang!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kang has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Smith.
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Smith blocks a low kick nicely.
Kang wants to clinch.
Gerald Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kang moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Kang takes a swing at Smith's ribcage but misses.
Smith lands a high kick!
Smith attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A nice inside leg kick there by Smith. That's going to slow Kang down.
Smith slips a jab from Kang.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
Kang tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Smith fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Smith takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

and Kang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smith's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kang throws a hook to the side of Smith's head but Smith sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Smith misses with a leg kick.
Kang lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Smith throws a chopping leg kick but Kang manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Kang drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Smith defends it well.

Kang is pulling down on Smith's head to control his posture.
Smith won't allow Kang to sweep him here.
Kang is still trying to improve position.

Kang wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kang is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kang closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ouyang Kang will probably get the nod.
That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Kang sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kang ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.
Smith throws a body kick that misses.
Smith lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Smith.
Kang checks the leg kick nicely there.
Kang is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Crunch! Smith slams his shin into Kang's torso.
Kang misses with a straight right.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith throws a half hearted mid kick.
Smith throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Kang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kang tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A big left from Smith misses.
Smith misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kang changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Smith swings for the body but Kang moves out of range.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith takes a swing at Kang's ribcage but misses.
Kang shoots in but no luck this time.

and Kang counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.

Kang is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Smith wants to improve his position but Kang is controlling well.
Kang tries to pass to full mount but Smith defends it.
Smith is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kang not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Smith blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kang.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kang is looking to pass Smith's guard but actually Smith recovers to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ouyang Kang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Smith tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kang manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kang circles away quickly and effectively.
Kang ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.

Kang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kang is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kang manages to get himself to full guard.

Ouyang Kang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kang winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
