Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amir Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fred Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Amir Khan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan throws a body punch but Russell moves out of range.
As Khan tries to get set, Russell tries to push him back and clinch up but Khan manages to avoid the attempt.

Khan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Russell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Khan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Russell to his feet.
Russell circles away from the clinch attempt.

Khan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Russell is trying to defend but Khan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Khan stands up from half guard.

Khan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Khan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Russell is trying to control Khan's posture but Khan avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You can see the frustration on Russell's face as Khan controls the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A control attempt from Russell but he's now mounted!

Khan goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Russell turns into him and now he's in Khan's guard.
Khan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Russell is one step ahead there.
Russell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Russell content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Khan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Russell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Khan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Khan has momentary wrist control but Russell slips an elbow through the middle.
Russell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Khan controls Russell momentarily but Russell frees himself.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Russell.
The fight stays on the outside here - Khan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Russell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Khan's half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Russell with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Khan shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Khan is breathing heavily.
Russell avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Khan.
Khan wants to advance to full mount but Russell doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Russell keeping moving, preventing Khan from controlling successfully.

Khan wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving.

Khan stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Khan shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Amir Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Khan tries to clinch up.
Russell tries to counter by clinching up but Khan breaks away and moves out of range.
Russell gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Khan.

Khan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Khan lands in his opponent's guard.

Russell has his foot on Khan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Khan works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Russell looking for a guillotine here but Khan defends easily.
Khan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Khan stands and steps away. Russell gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Russell throws a right and a left that Khan avoids nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Khan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Russell's guard.

Khan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Russell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Russell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Russell!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Khan. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Russell tries for a kimura but Khan is defending well.
Khan pushes Russell away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Russell gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Amir Khan has got the better of the ground game so far.
You can see the frustration on Khan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Khan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Russell gets to mount! Khan was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Khan is bucking up trying to escape but Russell cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Khan gets back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Amir Khan.
Well Khan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
